Teaching philosophy

The teaching philosophy is represented by those values, perceptions and experiences which form the base of your work as a teacher.

A reflective teaching philosophy is sought by most universities, both in Sweden and internationally. It is about which values you, as a university teacher, carry with you that affect the way in which you teach and interact with the students. You are expected to describe the basis, goals and frame of reference that affect your work as a teacher. Questions you may ask yourself are: How do I view knowledge, education and knowledge development? How do I view, for example, equality, gender and equal treatment in an educational setting? An important perspective is your own development as a teacher, supervisor and research mentor. By describing your development, pointing out room for growth and setting up future goals you show your capability as a pedagog. Support your point of view by pointing out relevant higher educational theory and literature. Refer to pedagogical theory on teaching and research. Keep in mind, though, that it is not an educational paper but yourself and your own reflections that should be the focus.
